Circles

I feel that the crop circles are rather lame, the ice circle is formed naturally by the movement or currents. Mushrooms are good.

Mountains

My friend John was really thoughtful and generous and gifted me two framed photos of the Himalayas taken in the 1930's. They have a wonderful script in pencil beneath each photo, describing the images taken. I will post pictures of them soon.

John is a collector and dealer of old photographs (mostly from the 19th century) - he gave the photos to me because I draw and paint mountains a lot. And I just really like the look of them - something about them captivates me.
I like volcanos a lot too, I am working on a small painting of the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo (Philippines) at the moment for a forth coming exhibition.

Animals that have attacked me

(Bitten, scratched or stung)

Wasp (stung - on the shin)
Dog (bite - various dogs have bit me on the arse, hand and middle finger)
Cat (bite, scratch)
Grasshopper (bite)
Caterpillar (stung)
Jellyfish (stung - awful)
Scorpion (stung - also unfun)
Human (bite, scratch - mostly fun)
Mosquito (bite - this was the worst I got malaria)
Bee (stung)

That's all I can think of right now but I have a feeling there have been more...

Are Cacti bad Feng shui?

When I moved into my current abode my flatmate said the one thing I couldn't do was bring a cactus plant into the house. He said he hated them! He is convinced they are bad Feng shui. I like Cacti. They are so alien looking and also you only have to water them about 5 times a year. How can something from nature disrupt the laws of Feng Shui? Is it the spikes? I really want to start a cactus garden but I think I will get evicted if I try.

Sunfish

This is a Mola-Mola also known as a Sunfish.

There used to be a taxidermied one at the Dunediun museum and was my favorite thing there.
When I went back a few years ago, the Sunfish had gone.

KODAMA

The Kodama are a japanese tree spirit that live in particular types of trees/flora. They act as guardians to these trees and to the forest areas in which the they grow.

Cutting down a tree that houses Kodama will bring bad luck.

Hong Kong dragons

In Hong Kong they put holes in their buildings so dragons can fly through them.

Thoughts about you

Were you a seed that grew in the dark?

Were you a fish that turned into a man?

Did you grow out of the ground
or wash up from the sea?

Are you beast or tree, or human like me?

Watching Jaques Cousteau

When I was little and living in the Phillipines, I used to watch these three VHS tapes of Jaques Cousteau's adventures through Papua New Guinea. They were given to my parents by family friends who had escorted Cousteau around the islands, reefs and rainforests of PNG.

Prior to the stint in the Phillipines, I briefly lived in Port Moresby. Most memories are of the beaches. Of looking at sea-cucumbers in rock pools, digging for pippies, and making peanut butter at my kindergarten. I also remember throwing my sister's cat down the stairs (sorry Juliet).

I remember on one of the tapes, footage of a beautiful Cus - cus that had climbed up a tree and then got trapped as water levels rose. They ended up saving it and keeping the Cus-cus as a pet on their boat.

My sister met Jaques Cousteau once and said he was actually quite boring...
